2007 Syrah de Fayel

Potrero Hill was abuzz with cheap roasted chickens being offered at Whole Foods (5 bux!).  I walked over on my lunch break and set the family up for dinner.  I perused the wines their for a couple of minutes, but decided to go local and stop by the Winehouse and ask Peter for some recommendations.  At first he thought i was looking for a couple of $20 bottles, but didn’t make me feel like a cheapskate when I told him “i mean two for twenty, out the door”).

He set me up with a pretty good French Syrah that we actually cracked open later in the week with a simple farmers market salad and some of the leftover chicken. It has some great sour cherry flavors (not candy, the actual fruit) both on the nose and on first sip.  That initial tartness carries into a long and herbal finish. It really is a simple well balanced crowd pleaser that went well with the aforementioned meal and later a chicken vegetable soup (these whole roasted chickens really go a long way).
