Post Preggo First Taste, 2007 Girard Petite Sirah

Before we got pregnant, my friend Bana took us on our first winery visit.  We hit up the tasting room of Hope and Grace (excellent, and super cool people) and after getting quite a good buzz going, we decided to, literally, run down the street and hit the Girard tasting room before it’s closed for the night.  While not quite as intimate as H+G, we did taste this 2007 Petite Sirah and with it’s price, around $20, and mix of jammy fruit with back end of tobacco I knew right away both my wife and I would appreciate it later on.

Move forward a year, baby coming soon, wife not drinking a drop and i stumble upon a lone bottle of this at BevMo of all places.  I picked it up and decided to hold onto it, knowing eventually we would share a glass sometime in the future.

Well, that day finally came up a couple weeks ago.  The weather was getting all summery, and we had cooked up a pizza and, why the hell not?, we opened upthis bottle and all the jammy goodness came right through at the start with some mild tannins mid pallet and that vegetal finish.  It was worth a wait and really classed up the frozen pizza from TJ’s.
