Domaine de la Pépière Château-Thébaud 2009
Why don’t I drink more Muscadet?
It is generally affordable, interesting to share and seems to be constructed just for my type of pallet. Here is a perfect example. Priced at under 20 bucks from Solano Cellars, this wine is very balanced with a ton of vibrancy and sweetness. It reminds me a lot of picking up pears from Frog Hollow at their peak ripeness. Juicy, stoney and just the right pucker with each bite. The mouth feel is similar too; firm and textured but dissolves into a sauce, where the acid is both biting and a pleasure, as it balances the sugar. As I write this, I formulate a plan to go buy a bottle as soon as the kid wakes from her nap. But for now, I hope she sleeps a bit longer and I’ll sit quietly typing away, headphones on with our house as peaceful as it could be.
ohhh, she just woke, well, thats not so bad either.
Domaine Macle Cotes du Jura 2008 -
My friend says, “have you tried a Jura?” I’m like “I don’t think so”. He say’s “Well, you’d remember.” So he picks out this Domaine Macle Cotes du Jura 2008, and it was memorable to say the least. The nose reminds me of drinking bum-jug wine in high school. Burnt candy apple, nutty butter, sweet and boozy, you swig it and it feels like it is heading in that direction, but it seems to calm down & finish clean, with no over whelming mouth feel. I wouldn’t be able to drink this alone, it is best with friends and food.
Mourning Glow EP by Wild Moth. Heard a track played on the last Bay Bridged podcast and set to repeat about a half-dozen times. Shoegaze, post-punk and local love.
2010 Jérémy Quastana Touraine L’Insurgé
Having peanut allergies gave me a mild uneasiness as the nose and initial flavors of this wine have a peanut note to them. Mid palette this disappears and you are left with that funky crazy nose and some refreshing current soda flavors that don’t hang around to long. Easy breezy summer red here if you can convince your friends that “it’s supposed to smell that way.”

Amazing #Graffiti. Looks almost like a knit sweater has been pulled over this building. Walk around and it takes on new life at different angles. (Taken with Instagram at 16th St & Carolina San Francisco CA 94107)
Signature Kirkland. That’s right. I was skeptical too. My neighbor poured me a glass, doesn’t say a word and just says “try it!”. Well okay. Good. Nose is warm, maybe a bit sweet. Staring to think I might have some french chard in the glass. Taste, well, it opens up with some bright mineral and sweet citrus tones. The sweetness carries but finishes clean with more acid that cuts away at the sweetness and all of the sudden I am bumbling something about French this or that and my neighbor has a shit eating grin and pulls out this 2010 Ti Point Sav Blanc from Marlborough. And even more importantly, it’s from from freakin’ Costco. Impressive and not utterly surprising.
2009 Poppy Pinot Noir - Earthy, rare and smokey. A nice compliment to the #vegan dinner cooked by my neighbor. #wine (Taken with instagram)
